Ancestral Flow an improvisation dance workshop that bridges the ancient and the modern, inviting participants for a 6 hours of physical and emotional journey into the roots of traditional Cretan music and the progression through the time.
Led by choreographer and dancer Sofia Pournatzi, and accompanied by live music performance.
Participants will not only be introduced to the structure, instruments, and cultural background of Cretan music, but will also explore how sound can lead the body into spontaneous, organic movement—free from mental control or choreography.
This is a space for deep listening, for embodied exploration, and for allowing movement to arise naturally.
Through improvisation and intuitive connection with live music, we will enter a collective trance-like state—where tradition becomes fuel for personal expression and liberation.
Sofia wants to share her own point of view.
“I created this workshop to offer a space where tradition is not fixed or preserved—but awakened, lived, and transformed through the body and the generations.
Experimenting the progression of sounds through traditional cretan instruments . And how this effect our movements.
My goal is to guide people into a state where the music moves them before the mind can interfere—where their dance becomes instinct, ritual, and freedom”.
Where movement meets tradition in a safe and nurturing environment. Here, you’ll feel supported as you explore your own unique expressions, guided by the rhythm and energy of live Cretan music.
The structure of the day is designed to gently lead you through a journey of physical and emotional growth.
Whether you’re new to dance or have years of experience, this workshop welcomes all with open arms, creating a space where you can feel secure to let go and move freely.
Join us and be part of a transformative experience where you’re encouraged to be yourself, explore new possibilities, and feel truly at home within your own body.

The heart behind Ancestral Flow
Sofia Pournatzi is a Greek dancer, choreographer, and founder of Medusia Productions, and the visionary force behind Ancestral Flow. Her work explores the intersection of deep-rooted tradition and contemporary movement, improvisation, and healing through dance.
Sofia began her artistic journey in London, studying contemporary dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Dance and Music, later earning her BA from The School of Classical Russian Ballet under Evgeny Goremykin, with a half scholarship.
She has performed in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, The Oval, and The Palladium, dancing iconic roles in The Nutcracker, La Sylphide, and Don Quixote (Kitri).
Seeking to unlock her own choreographic voice, Sofia trained with Akram Khan and participated in workshops with Wayne McGregor’s company—experiences that deeply influenced her own creations, including Medusa, Inner War, and Who Am I.
Her movement research has evolved into an interdisciplinary practice, blending dance, emotion, tradition, and healing. Alongside her choreographic work, Sofia is also certified in sports medicine (NASM), which has informed her understanding of the body’s intelligence and psychological connections to physical expression.
Open-hearted and always evolving, Sofia’s mission is to create work that resonates across cultures, and to help others reconnect with their instinctive movement. Ancestral Flow is the living expression of that mission.
